Tsunahiki Shinto Ritual in January
The Tsunahiki Shinto ritual, designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property by Osaka City, takes place on the third Sunday of January each year. A large rope representing the eight-headed and eight-tailed Yamata no Orochi serpent is made and pulled toward the year’s auspicious direction before being carried in a procession around the shrine. The ritual presents a scene quite different from an ordinary shrine visit.
Summer Festival and Funatogyo Procession
The Yoimiya Festival takes place on July 13 each year, followed by the main festival on July 14. Mikoshi portable shrines and drums parade through Sennichimae, Dotonbori, Ebisubashisuji, and other areas, while traditional performances such as lion dances are offered at the Shishiden.
